Bishop Alfred and Co-Pastor Susie Owens Announce Creation of Calvary Records!
Bishop Alfred and Co-Pastor Susie Owens ANNOUNCE THE CREATION OF CALVARY RECORDS AND ITS FIRST CD RELEASE, GREATER MOUNT CALVARY LIVE: AS TOLD BY THE MUSIC MINISTRY
Bishop Alfred A. Owens and Co-Pastor Susie C. Owens
Washington, D.C. - The esteemed Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. and Co-Pastor Susie C. Owens, of the Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church (GMCHC), have founded a new enterprise, Calvary Records, LLC. "We are delighted about Calvary Records," says Bishop Owens. "The label will serve as one of the many means by which people can experience the life changing and transforming power of Jesus Christ. The goal of Calvary Records is to impact the world with the message of Christ."
The church's well-known choir, The Greater Mount Calvary Recording Choir is the label's first signing. Grammy-winner Steven Ford (Vickie Winans, Shirley Caesar) produced their project, Greater Mount Calvary Live: As Told By The Music Ministry, that was recorded live at the church in January 2010.
The set boasts songs such as "He's Worthy", "Christ Did It All", and the first radio single, "Daily I Shall Worship Thee" that features Co-Pastor Susie Owens. Bishop Alfred Owens takes the spotlight as the soloist on the track, "God Is Worthy To Be Praised." The CD will be released online and in selected retailers nationally on January 4, 2011. Pre-orders of the project will begin December 1, 2010 online at www.greatermountcalvarylive.com.
"Not only is the project a reflection of GMCHC, but also an extension of the ministry," Co-Pastor Owens continues. "It's important that we reach everyone we can," she says. "I think you can touch so many more people outside of the pulpit through music. Music travels so far. It's our job to move beyond the podium and try to reach not just the saved but the unsaved."
Founded in 1966, GMCHC has been nicknamed "the church in the hood that will do you good" and boasts over 100 ministries. The music ministry is under the direction of Elder Cornelius Young, Minister of Music and Tammy Ellard, Associate Minister of Music.
GMCHC is also the home of 2010 How Sweet The Sound finalist, the Greater Mount Calvary Men of Valor, who won the V Cast People's Choice award on Saturday, November 13 at the Verizon Center in Washington DC.

CD Review for Admiration by JUDAH
Artist: JUDAH
Title: Admiration
Label: Majestic Music
Release: 2010
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/judahadmiration
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap: Spiritual Rap
The first track that introduced me to Admiration was “Praise Party” featuring Erica Cumbo & Rob. P. The go-go beat grabbed my attention right away and gives you a great feel for this urban worship project! As I listened to the project, I heard the head bobbing, kicking beat of “I can’t Stop Praising” featuring LaTonya Cain which reminded me of hanging out on a Saturday morning with no care in the world. Now I have to say, the soft R & B tones of “T.R.U.S.T” featuring Meredith Jackson had a wonderful vibe yet with a great message. Ladies and Gentlemen…. hands down, my new favorite track is "Swaga-Docious" also featuring Meredith Jackson. “This is my Jam”! LOL. It puts a pep in your step and a strong sway in your shoulders.
Overall the project is a great representation of diversity in music ministry. I think those of the hip hop generation will get their groove on but without loosing the message of the Father…
Recommended Tracks: 2…3…5…8…10
Sounds like: Canton Jones, Mary Mary, Da Truth, LeCrae

Tired of the same old dates?
Alternative Dating Options
By Anna David
Here are eight ideas for good, old-fashioned dates!
DATE #1: Get to the art of the matter
"Go to your city's gallery row and wander from one end to the other," suggests Gail Prince, the author of Soul Dating to Soul Mating: On the Path Toward Spiritual Partnership. "The activity gives you a jumping-off point in terms of conversation by giving you a focus." You also learn about one another's interests while exploring nooks of your town that may be new to you both.
DATE #2: Use your language skills for more than small talk
Word games are an easy way to break the ice, facilitate conversation and just have fun. "I used to take Travel Scrabble with me on dates," says Taffy Akner, 29, of Brooklyn, New York. "It helped weed some dates out-like the one who challenged the word 'choreography' and couldn't spell 'thesis.'"
DATE #3: Take to the water
One of relationship expert Athena Navarro's all-time favorite dates was a nighttime kayaking one. "My date brought a DVD player, because after kayaking, you're all wet and can't go anywhere, so we watched Breakfast at Tiffany's in the car," she remembers.
DATE #4: Show each other your true colors
Channeling your inner Picasso helps use your energy for creativity, making you more comfortable and less nervous around the new person. "Go to a pottery-painting place," suggests Jeff Cohen, the author of the e-book 30 Minute Guide to Online Dating. "You can create a lifelong memory on the date."
DATE #5: Stroll in the moonlight
"Courtship is very important, and we seem to have lost a lot of that," observes Navarro. "A nighttime walk is fundamentally romantic," she points out; you get to share impressions of the sky and the stars, hold hands and maybe steal a kiss in the moonlight. Trust us, this is one of the best, non-alcoholic ways to feel woozy and weak at the knees.
DATE #6: Let the newspaper be your guide
Snagging the weekend arts-and-entertainment section lets you be spontaneous when
going out-and puts you in a position to experience new things you otherwise never would. "My ex and I would follow listings in the paper," recalls Jen Newman, 33, of St. Louis, Missouri. "Some of the stuff we stumbled upon was mind-blowing, like this performance on top of a mountain and this party in an old-time dance hall."
DATE #7: Hit the clubs
Not the night clubs, but the golfing kind. "Miniature golf is a good, goofy activity, and it lets you see how your date acts with something that can be really fun or can get competitive," says Navarro. "If someone is competitive over the 'small stuff,' how will they handle the 'big stuff'?"
DATE #8: Try some fair play
Carnivals and street fairs are a good way to enjoy the night air, ride crazy rides, pig out on energy-inducing junk food and otherwise relive your childhood. "At a street fair, you can see what material things a person is drawn to, how they deal with crowds, if they're a big spender and if they can handle silliness," says Rachel Luna, 23, of San Francisco, California. You get to
act like a couple of kids!

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is a disease that primarily affects women, but we also see occurances in men. While the incidence of new cases in the United States (approximately 260,000 new cases in women and 2000 cases in men, per year), the death rate from breast cancer has been declining since 1991. This decline is thought to be linked to increased awareness, earlier screening processes which in turn leads to earlier detection, and advancements in cancer treatments.
The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness. It is used to express support for those who are, or have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Many of you have seen support for this cause on your jobs, in retail stores, on TV, and even in the sports arena. The NFL league, for example, it’s coaches, game staff personnel, and players will be wearing pink for all games for the month of October to show their support and to promote breast cancer awareness.
What YOU should do:
We ask that you (especially the ladies) be diligent in monthly self exams, getting annual screenings, and encouraging your family, friends and co-workers to do the same.

How to have a longer weekend!
Many of us wish and dream about having a 3 day weekend each week. Come on...I know you do! We hum that song " Everybodies working for the weekend!" and when Friday gets here, we say TGIF all day long!
I have some suggestions that will help you feel like ALL of your weekends are long.
Tip #1
Start your weekend on Thursday night! Make Thursday night a date night or a family night. Go see a movie on Thursday or go bowling. Do something entertaining to jump start your weekend. Even though you have to go to work on Friday, it’s only Friday and then you are off for two days!
Some people do housework on Saturday morning which takes up half of your day. Why not do it Thursday evening? That frees up your weekend even more.
Some of us ladies get our hair done on Saturday and that is at least ( for the African American sista) a 3-5 hour block of time. Try making an appointment for Thursday afternoon or evening.
Tip #2
Extend your weekend beyond Sunday and make Monday a fun night! Perhaps Monday night could be your movie or bowling night. Maybe Monday night could be your "people watching" fun at your local mall... Come on... I know yall people watch like I do! LOL. Anyway do something fun for Monday that you can look forward to. This will help take away the dreary Monday feeling.
Just a few thoughts to help you have a longer weekend--- Sharvette Mitchell
